Typical Pet food
There are currently 5 large food corporations that own about 99% of the well-known pet food brands. Nearly every pet food offered at a grocery store or large retail chain (as well as many featured at independent pet stores,) is owned by one of these corporate giants. In addition, the prescription foods sold in veterinary offices also fall under these corporate umbrellas.
In regards to pet food, large food corporations make food out of the waste not allowed to be used in products meant for human consumption. All the leftover fillers, meat and poultry by-products as well as other cheap ingredients. Ingredients typically found in today’s pet food that you should not be feeding your pets include: corn and wheat gluten; meat and grain meals and by-products; BHA (Butylated Hydroxyanisole); BHT (Butylated Hydroxytoluene); Ethoxyquin; Food Dyes (Blue 2, Red 40, Yellow 5 and 6, 4-MIE); PG (Propylene Glycol); Rendered fat.

“It is encouraging to see the number of pet cats and dogs increasing in Canada over time and I think that reflects the special relationship we have with them. Over the last ten years cat and dog has increased by about 10%. Overall approximately 41% of Canadian households include at least one dog, and similarly around 37% include at least one cat.”
